Spray foam insulation is the best option when it comes to improving energy efficiency and comfort in your home, and it also has a benefit you don’t get with other types of insulation – sealing air leaks.  When having insulation installed in the walls, attic, or floor of your home or business, it’s highly recommended that you leave it to the professionals.

We all know about the polyurethane foam spray cans you can find at Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart and other retailers.  While you should never attempt to insulate your home with these products, they do have some good uses.  Our Austin insulation pros are sharing three applications for these products that you can do yourself!

Have a loose shower head?  Here’s an easy fix.  Inject spray polyurethane foam around the arm, making sure it’s fixed in place firmly.  It typically takes anywhere from a few minutes to an hour for the foam to cure; once it does, simply trim away any excess with a box cutter or detail knife.  Once this is done, slide the shower arm flange back in place so that it’s aligned with the wall.

Eliminate water supply line racket.  When not firmly anchored in place, water supply lines can make a lot of noise when water is being used.  While it’s not really a huge concern, it can be irritating when using water in the bathroom or kitchen.  To silence the racket, use a can of SPF insulation and apply around water pipes where they connect with floor joists.

Landscaping made easier.  From borders to waterfalls and even creating faux rocks, waterproof spray polyurethane foam has many uses in the landscape.  It’s great for securing rock and stone, so you don’t have to mess with mortar.  If you’re thinking of a water feature, SPF can be used to fill cracks and gaps, helping direct the flow of water.  You can find many uses for SPF in the landscape on Pinterest!

These are just a few of the many uses for spray polyurethane foam in a can you may never have thought of; you can find many more just by searching online.
